What Are You Working On Right Now??

I'm writing my evaluation for my final college assignment. One of the questions relates to well-being and motivation levels and I've just looked through my notes and discovered that I've written several different kinds of runes on most of the pages and all the runes translate to 'die'.

I'm not sure if that's the kind of thing I really should be writting about in my evaluation...

Edit- holy shit, I've just finished the last bit of college work I ever have to do. Ten days early. I have time... time I can spend doing anything... anything I want... I... I...

I left college a couple of months ago, so I've had nothing to study for for some time! However, if my student loan is approved, then I'll be studying English literature at the Open University in October, which I'm excited about. I also don't have to buy half the course books because R has just finished the first module.

At the moment, I'm studying French so I might combine the two (hooray for OU flexibility!) and do some French modules.

Thought I'd ressurect this thread rather than making a new one.

I'm currently struggling with my dissertation. We had a check-up lecture on it today and it's worried me more than anything. I've got this one bit nearly done and that's where we're supposed to be at, but I don't think it's a good standard of work and I'm just so worried that my dissertation is going to drag down my degree mark.

I don't feel like my university is supporting us as much as they should. The lecturer said today the next time she sees us, in 7 weeks time, will be when the dissertation should be about complete. We can go to our tutors in the meantime but it just feels totally like I've been thrown in at the deep end when I have no idea what I should be doing for the next section. I suppose I'll have to go and see my tutor about it, I just hope he knows what I'm supposed to be doing next.

^ Meow - I'm only a first year but when we first met our tutor he told us to go see the tutor that had set the work or him if we were unsure about anything. I'm sure your tutor will be able to help, and if not will be able to tell you who can.

Essay on evolution and machines in Samuel Butler's Erewhon and H. G. Wells' The Time Machine, all about what would happen if humans were to do away with machines (at the risk of them becoming autonomous and pushing humans to extinction) and whether humans would evolve for better or for worse.
It's more interesting than it sounds.

Typing and then working on some old bits of writing. I decided I'm going to apply at the German Institute of Literature.
They want a letter of application and 20 pages of my work (it can be several texts, though ... phew) by the end of April, as well as an hour-long interview should they .

AGAGAGAGA what am I going to tell them why I want to study there? I want to write, I've never wanted anything else, I want to learn the craft and I want to learn it at the best place possible. And this is what half of the applicants are going to write, I bet.
Also, wtf is it with my writing? It's all gloomy and disturbing and I don't think it's varied enough for them.

I WANT IN GODDAMMIT. How can I convince them?

^^^I am shitting bricks about the prospect of doing one dissertation, I am very impressed with you doing two!

I am editing an essay for my Pragmatics module, which is on the relationship between politeness, (in)directness and implicature. And by 'editing my essay' I mean 'my essay is minimized and I am wondering what mother is planning for dinner'.

^^^ Dissertations are not as scary as a lot of people make them out to be. From my experience, the most scary thing is that you get a huge amount of time to do them in, so the time management is just a bitch, and you still end up doing the bulk of the work the two weeks before the deadline.

Absolutely this. I'm finishing mine off now, I have half a chapter left and that's it, but I'm still cutting it fine because its due on friday. Going to print it wednesday I think. Time management has been by far the most stressful aspect of it.

My advice to other mooks who will undertake a dissertation in the future? Start early, make yourself a timetable, stick to it. Make lots of appointments with your tutor- trust me when I say they've seen it all.

Yep! Memorial pages, social gaming, memes (esp. as an example of how new creation of ritual fails), and hashtags.

Vectors. Checking if lines intersect and or are paralell, if stuff belongs to planes or bases. And series.

^Well this is quite weird as I've just come back onto Mooky, after spending ages on a question on intersecting and parallel vector lines (probably a lot simpler than what you're doing, but it's an odd coincidence nonetheless).

^Huh, what a strange coincidence. This is my first encounter with vectors and stuff, so it's probably at the same level, though. Are you finding it fun? I think it's kind of interesting, although I find it hard to check when one vector is a multiple of some others.
