Clutterfly Jewellery

At Tattoo Jam I finally bought some Clutterfly Jewellery. I've wanted some for ages, and it's not exactly cheap. I bought them last minute before we went and literally just went "Oh, I want that one, and that one please", the lady popped them in the bag and off I went.

On a closer inspection in the car, the clasp part of one was broken, the clasp on the other one was really stiff and both had been made using really shitty chains and stuff. Considering one was £5 and the other was £10, I'd expected much better quality.

I'm really disappointed. I've seen loads of my friends wearing their stuff and seeming to be quite happy with it, but I'm really not impressed. I emailed them through the 'contact us' form on their site. It says they aim to get back to you in 48 hours. I sent it on Monday morning. It's now Saturday morning. I understand they may not manage 48 hours exactly, but 6 days is taking the piss a bit don't you think? I've also messaged their facebook and had no reply.

I wasn't a total cunt in the email either, just explained what I've explained to you guys and that I hoped there was something they could do about the broken necklace and that I really loved their designs and jewellery so I hoped they took my feedback on board and started using better quality materials.

But something good has come out of this, I've been inspired to make my own jewellery and to customise what I bought from them to make it better too. I've had a look on google and ebay and I've found some awesome charms to make necklaces, bracelets and earrings out of.

Do they have a phone number? Most companies I've found are slow to reply to email but if you ring them you'll be able to get it sorted out much quicker. If not then just keep bombarding them with emails until they reply to you!

Nope, no phone number on their site, just a 'contact us' form.

That's crap. Hopefully if you keep emailing them they'll eventually get back to you.

I found that if a company ignores your e-mails to the point it starts to get rude, the best thing to do is threaten to involve trading standards. They normally reply pretty quickly after that.

Yeah. If not they've just lost a customer, I really wanted a few of their customised stuff as well. Although, it's only made out of Fimo, I could probably make it myself with a few attempts. But then I'd be accused of ripping them off.

I can't get the site to load so I'm not sure what the stuff looks like but if you're making it for yourself then it's not ripping them off. If you copied their images and started selling stuff then that would be a different matter.

It's always a bit shit when stuff you've been excited about doesn't quite live up to expectations. I hope you get it all sorted.

Disreputable Companies

I thought we should have a thread where we share our bad experiences with companies, in order to ensure no one else falls victim to the scams of certain companies.

(I put this in style tribe because both of mine were clothing websites, so I apologise if it belongs somewhere else.)

Two companies I have found to be less than commendable are:

Drac-in-a-box - I placed an order then when nothing arrived in two months I decided to get in touch with them via e-mail, long story short they refused to give me a refund and were very evasive, I eventually threatend to get Trading Standards involved, they immediately gave me a refund and apologised for the inconvenience, A google search also revealed that I am not the only person to have problems with them.

Pyretta's Lair - I placed an order with them and it came in good time. I then had to return it, as someone had already bought me it for my birthday. I e-mailed then to tell them I was returning it and then sent the parcel. A month later I had not recieved any correspondance or refund. I then e-mailed them again and they said that they had not recieved the parcel and that they had to authorise the return before it was sent anyway. This would have been impossible either way as they said all returns had to be authorised, and sent within 7 days of reciept, and they took over a month to reply. In the end I got trading standards involved (they eventually said there was nothing they could do as there was no proof they ever got the returned goods), it turns out the address the presented as their own was actually that of a mailbox company, therefore they had presented no contact information except an e-mail address. Whilst it may be true that they never recieved the parcel their attitude was atrocious and they altered their website several times to show new information.

I apologise if there's already a thread like this; I did search.

I've just posted about Clutterfly Jewellery in Rent-a-rant. Their stuff is lovely but they haven't got back to me about my necklace being broken when I bought it... so we'll see how that goes, I'll keep people updated.

I think this is a good thread. If a company is untrustworthy and they behave like capitalist scumfucks, they deserve a bad reputation, and consumers deserves a warning. Good thinking Inky!

I've moved this to Activism and made it sticky. Will perhaps merge some other threads into here too.

Drac-in-a-box were annoying to deal with. My mum bought me a lolita dress with platform dolly shoes for xmas. Dress came in fine (although it looks nicer on the site tbh) but we had a letter saying the shoes would be with us in Jan. Fair enough we thought but we never got them. We complained and they told us "sorry we'll send them out" so wanting to have good faith waiting few weeks still nothing so in the end like you we had to threaten with trading standards before we got money back.

Still no reply from Clutterfly. I am going to use the form on their site, their email address, message them on facebook and join their group and post on the wall every day until they get in touch with me.

As a last resort you could easily pull the domain registry info from a whois search and get their phone number,e-mail and postal address. I looked them up and they are based in Wales with a Cardiff postcode. Ways and means. ;)

Dave.

Custom Stuff - http://www.customstuff.co.uk , I ordered from this company in Dec 2009 and have sent various emails about my missing order with no reply, I do however have a paypal receipt with the guys full name on it. I have emailed again today , using the trading standards threat. There is no mail address or phone number on the website. Infact there isnt even an email, i only had the email from the valadation of setting up my account, and its an Admin@customstuff one, so god knows if anyone actually reads them.

So this is what happened, I ordered custom stickers from them a couple of weeks before christmas, It was a small part of my younger brothers present. On their website you can set up an account, and it opens up a page for you to make custom shapes and put your photos on, they then print the page on vinyl and send them out to you as stickers, all for 4.95. I thought this was great, so i designed up my page and paid via paypal. The status for the first few days on my account was 'in production' the it changed to 'dispatched', but i never recieved anything.

I was more anoyed about not having them for my brother for christmas than the money tbh and the fact that the website advertised on the mainpage that you were guarentteed before christmas delivery if you ordered before th 20th of Dec and i placed my order on the 15th :( .

^To be honest that sounds like they got lost in the post, rather than it being the companies fault.

Also i have a couple of ebay sellers that id like to name and shame.

The first one is candy.acid, she makes pretty awesome clip in hair pieces , and i ordered one that never came, she does have really good feedback, and she did email me 3 months later to ask if i ever recieved it, and i replied that i hadnt , i never heard back from her, so ive tried emailing her again now as i really wanted it!

Second one is La Graphics, i have just opened up a dispute with them on ebay, long story short, i ordered some vinyl decals for my car, the first one was the wrong color , it was pink!!!!! when id asked for baby blue, she apoligised and told me to keep the first one, sell it or give it to a friend and sent me out another one, it arrived, i opened it and it was DARK BLUE not baby blue, dark blue, i emailed her back and had no reply in 7 days so ive opened a dispute on ebay and given her bad feedback!

That may be the case, but i think its abit werid that they dont reply to emails or advertise any contact details on their website.  I ordered them in dec and its now aug and ive had no contact, no stickers, no refund.

Surely a big business like that would send Items recorded delivery so they know their customer has got them??

Well Clutterfly finally messaged me on facebook. She was very nice and apologised and said they hadn't had an email. I explained the problem, they had a problem with their supplier and changed them and the new one isn't very good, so they've changed again. They're sending me out better quality chains in the post, so all is well.

Something I read in the guardian newspaper a while back: (tried to find it on the website but couldn't)

-Never buy from a website if a company does not have a proper address and telephone number. If they just have a PO box listed, be wary. And if there are no contact details, steer well clear.

-Ring the contact number listed if you're unsure. If they are a genuine seller/ company, they should have no problem with you checking.

-Search for the company name on google and see if you can find out what others are saying about them. If there are more bad reviews than good, don't buy from them.

-Be cautious about goods that are either more expensive or cheaper than they should be. If the price seems too good to be true, it usually will be and you'll be ripped off.

Happy shopping!

I also recommend checking them out on google maps, I thought one of the afore mentioned companies had a reliable address, but it turned out that it was the address of a mail box company. There's thirty quid I'll never see again.

My advice is don't buy shoes from Office. My brogues from there cost £60, I paid that much for them in the hope of having good quality ones, but the soles wore down within a month and that wasn't even with constant wear. D: I had to pay another £10 to get them resoled and they're fine now, but I definitely wouldn't buy another pair of shoes from there.

Also Costa Coffee because I was supposed to have a job interview there and the woman forgot about me. ;_;

Avoid having your stuff delivered by CityLink. They were absolutely SHIT with us.

^ seconded. Was supposed to get 4 packages with next day delivery from them which should have been here 29th December and 2 still haven't arrived, the other 2 arrived 2 days ago. The online tracking still says estimated delivery 30th December 2010. A day late, but I could handle that. But still waiting. They were useless on the phone aswell.

^My dad couldn't get through to them, then he got put on hold for about an hour and eventually hung up. And they said our package would be there for the fourteenth, then the snow came (AFTER the fourteenth), and my dad cancelled the order. Two weeks later, it STILL arrives and we have to send it back. Then it got delivered AGAIN, but because we weren't in our neighbours signed it for us thinking they were doing us a favour, and we had to send it back yet again.

RE: Office shoes. I've had a pair of 'jazz shoes' that I wear pretty much every day and have had for at least a year and a half, and they've not fallen apart yet. They do have holes in, admittedly. As with every chain clothing or shoe store, it's kind of the luck of the draw. Machines make stuff and sometimes they don't make it as well as they should (also why sequins always fall off cheap clothing).

^I've always found Office shoes to be perfectly adequate as well.

I can't remember the name of the seller, but I bought an AS physics revision guide from an Amazon seller. They sent me an A2 revision guide, and when I emailed them to complain, they told me they didn't have my order in stock.

They did refund me in the end, but the same thing happened on eBay with an item of clothing and I was never refunded for that. The seller was Chinese and, when I complained, said something like, "Sorry friend, we cannot understand your question right now."

I'm a lot more careful about buying online now.
