The boy and satanism

So the boy told me last night that he had found religion and that this was satanism. I want to be supportive of him bc he always supports me and I understand that the media often takes things too far. He says the main things attracting him are the whole no worship ( you yourself are your own god) and do to man as he would do to you. I want to support him but I'm struggling to understand and I don't know if he really gets what he's getting into either. If anyone knows any good reliable sources of information or has any advice id really appreciate it xxxxx

You might Google a guy named Boyd Rice and see where that leads you. What I understand of it is that it seems to encourage antisocialism and I don't recommend it to people who want to live with and interact with other people.

I had friends who were satanists when I was younger, and I read alot of Crowley and LaVey myself. The way I see it, it's like any other religion. It can be used to become a better person or it can be used to become an asshole.
I do not agree that satanism encourages antisocialism, quite the contrary does it point out how useful it is to behave nice towards others.

I'll be happy to answer questions as far as I'm able to, but right now I have a deadline in 3 hours and really shouldn't be online at all..

As far as I know (and that only extends to a bit of Internet research and reading The Satanic Bible by LaVey) Satanism really isn't a bad religion at all... Of course like Irilar said, it can be a positive or a negative thing, but don't let the fact it's Satanism make you worry excessively. It's like any other religion, just with a bad rep. Do a bit of online research, then talk to your boy! It's really sweet that you're trying to be supportive and not jump to conclusions, and I think if you spend some time learning the basics, your boy would really appreciate that. Then you can talk things over together. Good luck! xx

Wise Irilar is wise. I want to be like Irilar when I grow up. :)

Sorry if that was a bit judgmental.

I'm no expert, but here's an imporant fact to bear in mind - Satanism is NOT Satan worship - that's a different kettle of fish altogether. There's lots of info on the net and suchlike, but it can be very misleading - I'd go to him himself with questions, which is absolutely fine to do, if anything it shows you're interested in how he's feeling about it

Yeah, I think people get worried as they mix it up with Theistic Satanism, which is the sub type commonly represented by books, films and the general media. Non-theistic Satanists generally don't believe in Satan at all, although some regard him as a figure representing liberty and acceptance of the self. There's actually a lot of good in Satanism if you read up on it, although it's not something I'd be interested in myself- in short, everybody before me is right, you've nothing to worry about!
