Alka Answers Your Questions About Lush (and other stuff, if you like).

As the title suggests, and as per request of folks in the mini problem solving thread this is a thread for general Lush questions to be asked.

Please be aware that if I get loads of "that shops smells so much I can't even go in" I will kick a bitch, yeah it smells. I get it.

I can try and answer other questions if you want, I'm pretty flipping wise.

... When you breathe out is it all multi-coloured from the bath bomb dust and the sheer glee of Lushness??

Bad joke, YAY for Lush thread!

^That's.. Beautiful.

Do you know if Lush've thought of having a go at non-natural hair colours?

October 6th everything's launched in store. Some Christmas products (ones that aren't BRAND SPANKING NEW) are available online now. I would wait until you see everything at once though!

Please tell me the Christmas puds are still available this year, they smell amaaaazing (also, why did they shrink them? I swear they used to be full sized...)

Are you getting paid for this thread? I'm guessing no, but you totally should. This is overtime! You're selling to a huge market. This means inevitable sales, even if people don't post their intentions to buy on this thread.

In fact, we ought to go into Lush with screenshots of Alka's advice and a little note requesting that she get commission for the sale... seeing as she's going to all this trouble.

Haha we don't actually work on commission, contrary to popular belief. And to be honest, if I could work for free I would. I do plenty of unpaid overtime.

I don't think Lil Lush Puds are back this year actually. I might be wrong (we haven't had our Christmas training yet, which means that technically I shouldn't know anything, but I do know some stuff).

Well Snowcake is back, which is pretty similar in scent. I never liked the Lush Puds, I'm not a fan of brown bathwater.

Why is it that Lush staff are always so awesome? This is a serious question, the few times I've gone in (the times I've been blessed with a cold or something else that hinders my over-sensitive sense of smell) the staff have always been so friendly and bubbly and cheery and I can't help but catch their cheeriness! In any other shop, the best you can wish for is polite...

Ok, not product related, but still.

Will Let Them Eat Cake ever return? I've never quite got over its absence at Christmas :(

I don't think so petal :( I am as bummed by this as you are. There is something I think you might like this Christmas though.

As to staff. WELL.

For a start, getting hired at Lush is a fairly lengthy and in-depth process. Your personability is looked at, your answers to 'normal' interview questions as well as more 'Lush' type questions are looked at, your ability and enthusiasm in talking to and touching strangers is discovered (in my first week I was literally on the street doing foot rubs on strangers, you have to be OK with that kind of thing).

After the hiring we get a seriously intensive amount of training. Any quiet moment in the store in your first few weeks is mini training on anything you're struggling with. We still have training at least once a month, and I guess we just generally tend to be lovely cheery people.

In an application E-mail to them, would it be better to show a little bit of personality, then, rather than be super formal?

Yes that is the soap Irilar, but I would wait and get some fresh.

Fun and enthusiastic covering letters are my favourite, but applications in person where they can see how enthusiastic you are are better than emails in my opinion.

As for FUN....ohh yes I've had a play - it's awesome! In stores from tomorrow, I merchandised ours in this evening. It's really lovely and the scents are beautiful - quite simple, but beautiful.

The blue is lavender and chamomile and smells a lot like Dreamtime or AOBS.
The red is a delicious orange/mandarin fragrance and smells a bit like Calacas but is my favourite so far. God I love orange-y stuff!!
Yellow is vanilla and smells like....vanilla. A lot of my colleagues have said it smells like playdough but I do just smell the vanilla. It smells like vanilla cake batter.
Green is a lemon and lime scent which smells like 7UP.
Pink is a sweet tonka fragrance which smells similar to creamy candy. It's hard to describe that one.

And that's FUN!

And of course the best thing is that little ones can make stuff out of it before putting it in the bath/on themselves.

I've got the green one and I love it (I was having too much fun making stuff out of it) but I wanted to try the blue.
Alka you've sold me on the red one, I love Calacas.

Will Ultrabland ever clear up my face completely? I've been using it for about two months and it's done wonders, but every so often I'll still have a breakout, and I've never had a completely clear face in that time.

(That's only a half-serious question, I've sort of given up on having a lovely face.)

Is there anything in Lush for curly hair that won't weigh it down? I've tried so many different things, and I'm still searching for something that will help control the fluff without losing the wave. Smelling nice is a good bonus also.

Thanks for making this thread, Alka! We should arrange for you to get a commission somehow...

Cowl - It depends on why you're getting spots. For instance, I am WAY better at keeping to my face routine now, but sometimes still forget and go to sleep with my make up on, on pillowcases I should wash more often. I eat badly sometimes and touch my face constantly. I also get hormonal spots so a few days before and during my period I get spotty. If you've any of those then no, Ultrabland will never clear you up perfectly all the time. If not any of those, do you exfoliate? It might be worth trying a little Ocean Salt once/twice a week.

Clurrburr, have you ever tried Curly Wurly shampoo? That or Trichomania would be the ones I'd recommend trying first. And/or a shampoo like Cynthia Sylvia Stout (lovely adding weight and shine) and then a bit of R&B to define the curls.

Alka you lush babette you, do you mind if I pick your brain a little? I am just out of the shower (ooer) and realised that my skin routine is not good for my skin at all, even slightly. I don't know a thing about Lush products but only know that standard nivea moistures and soap and glory lotions and potions aren't doing much for me.

I have really dry skin and mild eczema that usually flares up quite badly with dramatic changes in temperature (ie, now it's pissing freezing up here) or when I'm stressed (ie, all the time). During the day I'm good at not itching and scratching but at night I claw at my legs in my sleep and as a result they are swollen and scabby.

My back is another place that gets the blight of eczema too but it's harder to reach between my shoulder blades to scratch.

Basically I need something that will keep my legs moisturised for lengthy periods of time, but won't upset the cuts and scabs and make them irratable. My skin is quite sensitive at the best of times too.

Also I have a really oily T - Zone, I use clearasil and it works okay but was just wondering if there's anything you'd recommend?

ANND finally (sorry this is lengthy) do you have anything that would suit dry coloured curly hair? My hair is naturally very dry (I don't bleach it anymore) but it is pink right now and the colour fades quickly. My hair is naturally really curly, but that wiry frizzy way. Any conditioners or anything that might help?

Thank you, love you, you are a wizard.

Dream Cream for your body and eczema-y bits. Super gentle but lovely and moisturising.

Angels on Bare Skin for your face. Lavender is super balancing so should sort your t-zone out. Similarly there's a beautiful face mask called Love Lettuce (because it makes your skin so nice people send you love letters...) which is chock full of lavender that you might want to try.

For your hair, try Trichomania solid shampoo with some American Cream or Retread (conditioner) or Blousey shampoo with either conditioner. Blousey is better for reducing colour loss, but it's quite expensive and I know you're a student.

Best bet is to go and see the lovely folk at Sauchiehall St though- those bloody lovely Scots!
