Woodish scented perfume?

I once got a sample of perfume in a magazine that smelled soso beautiful, like wood, almost, a really rich and gorgous smell. Unfortunately I didn't keep the package and it got thrown away, so I don't know what brand it was or how to find something similar. I have googled wood scents, but although there are lots of websites talking about them I've been able to track down an actual perfume which has this smell. Can anyone help?

If you can remember what magazine it was and look it up online, you might be able to find out yourself.
Alternatively, hit Lush, their perfumes are utterly fabulous. I honestly never want perfume from anywhere else ever again!

Well I was going to come in and recommend Lush fragrance (aka Gorilla Perfume) but I see I was beaten to it.

From that very brief description it sounds like you might like The Smell of Freedom, Dear John (not available in all stores but available online) and maybe Breath of God. Mail Order/Full perfume range stores also do The Smell of Freedom in 3 separate parts, one of which may appeal to you more.

Oh and you can find your local Gorilla Perfume stockists here.

WAS it a Lush perfume that you had in the magazine? I can't see that happening cuz they don't advertise or anything... But if it WAS, my bet is on 1000 Kisses!

I can't remember, it was that long ago.... I think it was a new perfume that was being released; it had sort of a stylized face on the packaging... I'll look up 1000 kisses too!

I used to wear Breath of God quite a bit because it went well with my lemongrass deodorant; that might be the one.

^^I would say Breath of God is more fresh than woody, but Exhale (which is one of it's constituent parts) is pretty woody. Perfume is so personal though.

If it was something with a face on then it wasn't a Lush perfume. I also don't think it would have been 1000 Kisses as that's super lovely citrus loveliness.

Alligator, why is BOG a 'used to' for you? It's so delicious.

^ I agree, I love Breath of God SO much, I wear it myself even tho it is a lil bit manly ha! It smells deeply resin-y on my skin tho, like a church. And I should probably have thought of that, I have a vial of 1000 Kisses Deep from Be Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful, which is the same scent but... I think in the crossover they changed it slightly. The version I have is very deep and oakmoss-y.
Forget your magazine sachet rachel, just go to Lush, YOU CANNOT GO WRONG. They make the most incredible perfumes known to man, they all have so much personality!

I ran out and decided not to replace it as I received a lot of colognes for Christmas and my birthday this year.

I have four scents I work with now:

  • Armani Code, which I hate and try not to use
  • Calvin Klein Be, which is good for daily use but I'm not as keen on it as I once was
  • Autograph: Intense, a Marks & Spencer scent that I really like
  • St. James post-shave Cologne, which is cedarwood and clarysage, and is my favourite of all of them

BOG received a five out of five star rating in "Perfumes: The A-Z Guide" which is like the perfume bible. It's a really, really good perfume.

LUSH has testers, so you can go in and get a feel for it. They sell it in small, lipstick-sized versions and misting sticks. Might also check out The Smell of Weather Turning if avilable.

Rachel, you can get all the Lush perfumes in the store in the Arndale in Manchester (downstairs, near the toilets, because there are two and I don't think the other has the full range), so you can go have a sniff and see what tickles your fancy.

Aside from that... something with sandalwood? I absolutely love that scent but I've yet to find anything with it in.

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab has lots of wood scented perfumes! I'd check out their reviews on blends you like the sound of, they helped me choose. I have two that smell of damp earth and wet forest, but that might not be what you're looking for? They send free samples with every order if you want me to send you some?

My goodness, I'm on their site now and am floundering. How on earth do you choose one out of all of these lovely things?

Message me your address on facebook! I'm not sure if the current samples I have are woody but they're fun anyway. I can actually send you a full one called "the witches garden" it doesn't really suit me. If I was in Lancashire longer you could try "Zombi" it smells like damp earth and roses :D.

And I usually scour all the scents, then read the reviews of the ones I like D: It's best to make notes...

Ed: Actually, I really recommend a special Autumn scent they do called "Halloween" it smells of sooty wood smoke and cold October nights, mixed in with dry leaves. It's soo heavenly. I hope they release it again this year...

Will do Rach! And an update: I tried out BOG at Lush today and I'm afraid I'm not too keen; it's a bit too musky for me and not woody enough.

Rachel, I'm up north again next week for three weeks, you could schniff my foresty smelling ones? Though it does mean I'll have to have my best socialising cap on and it doesn't fit me well... maybe you could smell them and run?

^ I think they have a shop but maybe just the one? I think they may stock on other websites but I don't know about physical shops!

One time, I got drunk and spent 70 on perfume from them :|

Oh god...at Lushfest I smelt the most heavenly woody perfume. It's called The Heiress. It was absolutely beautiful.

It was a one off production and cost 1500.

:(
