What would you re-make?

I know that it's sometimes a bit of a dodgy area, as re-makes rarely come along without being slated and trashed by professional and internet critics alike, but I've been thinking about this for a while and I want to know what other Mooks think.

If I had the money, time and other nessecery evils to re-make a film, I'd do The Clockwork Orange. I think it's message is still relevant and needs to be shown again to the general audience in a format that they can relate to. As much as I love the first version, it looks too silly and too much like cartoon violence for today's audience. Obviously the risk with that would be that I'd have to push the current boundaries and break out of the usual comfort zone to get the point across and some critics would just claim it was shock for shock's sake. However, I would also keep it closer to the origional plot of the book, especially in relation to the ending.

If you had the power, what film would you re-make?

Although I love the first version too, I think the message of A Clockwork Orange has been lost a bit because, as you said, it looks a bit cartoony these days. I'm not sure if I'd necessarily remake that one, but I'd be open to a remake.

I'd maybe remake A Serbian Film. I think it had the potential to be this great political masterpiece, but it was too pretentious and "shocking." Not a remake exactly, but I'd LOVE to make the anime Serial Experiments Lain into a movie. It was life changing for me but I think the fact it's an anime is preventing more people from seeing it. That's really the only thing I'd badly want to do, it was beautiful and thought provoking and I'd love more people to see it.

'The Razor's Edge'. I'd make it less joke-y.

I'd remake the Woman in Black. I was disappointed by it. It had such potential but I found it really lacked the atmosphere of the book and the stage play.

I'd like to make a modern version of Pandora's Box, with a female star that captures the beauty and vivacity that Louise Brooks had on screen and brings them to a 21st century audience.

alien resurection... now i know some people would say 'how can you bring her back after that perfect swan dive into the furnace in alien 3?' and in some ways i agree, but it could have been really interesting if they'd explored the mutated ripley angle a bit more and got someone like william gibson or alexander besher to write the script. a missed opourtunity i think.

Avatar the last airbender movie. IT NEEDS TO BE DONE BECAUSE SHAMALLAMA SCREWED IT UP ROYALLY.

Battle Royale. Instead of a movie, a series of 5 50-minute episodes for HBO.

"The Tripods"...as the BBC only made 2 out of the 4 books. This time, make three films, one of each book, not mini-series.

(you could probably fit the story in the prequel book into the films of the three main books with flashbacks etc...)

Dave.

The Other Boleyn Girl. I'd make it fit the book.

Disclaimer- this is not me admitting that I'm into historical girl porn. This is me being bored of listening to people complaining that it is nothing like the book.

In fact, I'd just go through every film that has ever been made that doesn't fit most of the plot and either re-make it or re-name it. Unhappy cinema profits, happy bibliophiles!

I said it the other thread but I would remake Sucker Punch and make it the feminist flick I dreamed it would be.

Toys with Robin Williams. Don't get me wrong, I love the original...I just think it could be topically well re-made with all the modern technology thats taking over childrens lives.

 ^YES!

I would remake Fade to Black and The Twilight Zone Movie.

I would've picked a few different episodes from the 50's Twilight Zone to remake for my remake of the Twilight Zone Movie. I would've kept 'Kick the Can' but stayed with the same plot of the 50's episode, it was so much better. I of course would also keep 'Nightmare at 20,000 ft' b/c that's a classic. Instead of 'Time Out', I would've done 'Deaths-Head Revisted' and instead of 'It's a Good Life' I would've done 'Walking Distance'.

Mobile won't let me quote. Wyno, why would you remake them? Labyrinth is my all-time favourite film and think it's almost perfect!!

^ It's almost perfect. I'd keep it exactly like it is, but I'd have Sarah marry David Bowie-Goblin King at the end instead of going back to the boring, mundane suburbian life....

Yes, I know it's all about growing up but fantasy worlds are so much more fun than reality and David Bowie was so incredibly droolworthy despite the ridiculous pants wink

^Ladies, this would be an awesome way to end the movie! I would also give Mr. Bowie different pants...

War of the Worlds, in the period it's meant to be in. I'd love that, aliens against a beautiful, bleak back drop of old London...

Where do I begin?

For starters, I'd put certain relevant parts in A Scanner Darkly. How the HELL do people that don't understand bicycles understand why that was such a key scene?

I'd remake the Addams Family movies. They had really good bits, but were overshadowed by cheesy humor. I know that's how the show was originally, but I always wanted them to go darker, so to speak. And what the hell was with that music? Come on!

Jamaica Inn. Alfred Hitchcock has made some good films but this is definitely not one of them. The plot changes quite considerably from the book (the bad guy is a completely different character, as is Jem the undercover police officer investigating smuggling who in the book is the Landlords horse-thief younger brother...) Charles Laughton threw a paddy about his character not having enough screen time which lead to certain events being moved forwards in the plot and so the end is more than disappointing.

I'd like to remake the Harry Potter films as a detailed tv series with HBO. It would have all of the things from the book that the film ignored and it would be epic...

Also, a live action Howls Moving Castle could be fun!

I'd like to re-make Carrie as a male-to-female trans kid.Offcourse he would be ginger, skinny and weird looking enough to creep you up.

Also i'd LOVE to re-make Mean Girls but our ''plastics'' would be ''latex maids''.The girls would be goth.
