Coping with the cold; a mooky guide to staying toasty when it's chilly.

So, since everyone complains about the cold, and it is only getting colder, soon it'll snow far more.
Advice on keeping warm anyone?

I'll give a little...
  • Lots of hot drinks, tea, coffee, hot chocolate using cocoa, heated milk, chocolate flakes, cream and marshmallows!
  • Get a hot water bottle, or several, best places are on your back or under your feet.
  • If you're going out, it goes without saying to wear a big coat, boots, knee high socks, several pairs, scarf, gloves and a million tops.
  • Don't eat spicy food too much, spicy food is used in hot countries to cool off because it makes your body think that you are too hot and cools you down, even though you're actually not.
More? :D x

Much as I hate to say it, my onesie actually did an excellent job keeping me warm last night.

A beanbag against my radiator has been the best idea I've had so far, means I can keep my back warm whilst working.

Sharing a bed with someone else is also an excellent idea ;)

^I wish I had a onesie. footies and all... it sounds warm.

Blankets, lots and lots of blankets.
They give you an excuse to cuddle with cutiefaces. ;3

I've been wearing lots of fresh clean clothes right out of the dryer.
I get chilled easily so I do anything and everything possible for a little extra warmth.
Oh and heating pads do wonders. (:

Give your clothes/pjs a quick wizz in the dryer before you put them on.
Wear multiple pairs of socks.
Buy good slippers.
Fingerless gloves are your friend. Warm hands, yet you can still type.
As tempting as it is, try not to get back into bed for warms. It will be freezing anytime you have to get up. If you stay out, you'll adjust and feel less icy.

I really want a onesie now.
It's deffinately true about tumble drying things though.
We need to find out why our house is so draughty. Because it doesn't seem to be coming from the chimney.

No coal to light the fire :(

Stick your towel in the tumble dryer before washing, then persuade someone to leave it outside the bathroom. Get out the shower, peek around the door, grab towel, and feel the lovely warm towelly niceness....

Tea, and food. Except spicy food of course. Food in your body is fuel, it's like a burner in your belly :D

I love the way you made that sound like some sort of spy mission; the quest of the warm towel or something.

Big fluffy dressing gowns always help, and I always think candles or a fire'll make you feel warmer even if they don't give off much heat, makes for a cozier atmosphere.

I put my blanket over the radiator, while I'm in the bath/cooking and when I get back it's nice and toasty ^_^

Oh my life. i love radiator pants :)

When it gets cold, like this weekend we were snowed in with snow up to 1m high:

We put the wood burning stove on (im sure just seeing the flames makes you feel warm!)

Everyone has hot ribena with whiskey in,

We get both dogs in the breakfast room

Then we all sit together cuddling dogs and drinking hot toddys :)

I love living on a farm in the winter, you actually cant leave unless you go by tractor :)

If I were organised enough I'd put my clothes for the next day on the radiator before I went to bed so they'd be all toasty when I got up the next morning and the heating would be on. Sadly I am rubbish and will probably forget.

I like to do my ironing in hte morning before I go out.
And having fresh, warm, ironed jeans in the morning is a beautiful feeling.

Ooh. Winter food! Things like stew, heavy soups, mashed potatoes... yeah. You get the idea. Warm clothes are always nice too... And hats. Lots of hats. You lose something like 85% of your body heat through your head, so wearing a warm hat makes you warmer.

Thermal long underwear, knee high socks, jeans, thermal shirts, sweat shirts, scarves, hot chocolate, tea, hot beef and veggie stew...The list goes on. But I haven't had to utilize any yet since I work in a photo studio and the store's attempting to kill us with the heater.

I put my clothes on the radiator in the morning, it's best if you turn them over half way so that they get warmed all the way through.

It's much better to layer a few thin tops and to wear a big thick jumper.

I wear fluffy bed socks with my boots, much better than normal socks! I also have welly socks too which are nice and cosy.

Lot's and lot's of tea :D

My tips:

Tights under trousers, if you are wearing trousers.
Wool hosiery.
Hot water bottles.
Baked potatoes in tin foil. (portable, warm, and edible! The perfect combo!)
Lots of layers
Sellotaping handwarmers underneath clothes.
Cups of tea, flasks of tea.
SOUP.
Cuddles

Relaxing and deep breathing in the cold. You can kid yourself that you are a bit warmer if you untense your muscles, and shake them out a bit.

Vests. Vests. VESSSSSTS
Organising your layers of clothes so that the minimal amount of skin is exposed to the air.
Soup.
Hot water bottles. Take one with you if you're going on the bus/train or in a car in the morning.
Tea, hot water mixed with juice, hot water on its own.
Gloves over armwarmers.
Scarves whenever you go near the wind.
Long socks.
