corset buying in london

ok, so i have a little bit of mony left over this month, and i've got a burlesque performance coming up so a new corset would be good...

I am fed up of buying ones online to find they are properly boned, and are of poor quality, and they never fit well...

Fairygothmother ones fit me badly and are over priced, and i don't know where else i can go...

I've got a pretty large bust, and i'm lets say a "curvy" 12-14...

any ideas what style would be good and where to buy one from?

Holy shitcakes, maybe la Jellah bean lives near Switzerland and they got sern to work and she's in a blackhole! Noooooooooooo.

I'm really intrigued by what the question was though, all I know about corsets is they're beautiful and too expensive for me to posess a really good one that'll actually reduce.

If you're not a fan of Fairy Gothmother, there's another pretty good shop that has nice corsets around the corner. If, say, you start where Fairy Gothmother is/was (I don't know, last time I was in Camden, FGM was shut and oh, I just realised that that abbreviates too!) or just generally in the Lock market it's one of the first stores on the right as you come out of the market and onto the main high street.

It normally has lots of mannequins outside with corsets and cosplay style clothes displayed. They have some stuff made out of really awesome and unusual fabrics. You could give that a try I suppose if my directions haven't completely confounded you!

Good luck!

Oooh, I'm glad they've got something making black holes at Sern, because the LHC at Cern won't be up and running until September and I'd so like someone other than the Americans to discover the Higgs Boson.

(And maybe I should re title this thread "Kitty is sarcastic about everyone who posts here...")

I was gonna say 'La Vey Corsetry' in Leicester but then I saw London :(.....But Jo LaVey is an awesome lady! She made the corsets for me and they are hand-made and comfy! But she does shows in London and various places.

But London, no idea sorry.

Ok, does this happen a lot, or just on a certain computer, is a problem with our site or the ISP you use?

Would be helpful for us to know this. Won't help your corset quest, but will help us look at fixing the sentence shaving problem.

As for your corset quest, check out this week's advice column.

FGM closed their Camden store last year around July (cos I got a basque for 60 down from about 200!). Try What Katy Did...it's somewhere near Portobello Road - Google it.

Edit: I've got a Burleska waist cincher and it fits perfectly.

Ideally corsets should be made to your measurements - but do try on loads of different ones if you can't afford that until you find what fits and what doesn't.

She's also one of the best looking Gothicy type people I know too! And because she wears the corsets she makes, I trust her so much! Her corsets last for ages, I've had one for over 3 years and it's only just on it's way out and I use it for tight lacing. Jo is one of the best people to go to if you want a quality corset.

as i'm learning very quickly, a longer corset is often good so you don't spill out. that goes with both under and over bust corset- if you have big boobs think about getting them made to measure, they aren't too expencive i know somewhere that does beautiful ones for 160 (which is about 2 months saving, but totally worth it!

Underbust Corset

A few weeks ago, I bought this awesome underbust waist-cincher thing ("corset" isn't really the word, as the boning is plastic and it only changes my shape a little bit). I don't really know what to wear with it... I have always loved that white shirt, black corset look, but none of the white shirts I have seem to match (must have to do with the style of the sleeves, the cut etc.).

So, what do you ladies normally wear with yours? Or what looks do you like?

My corset is a plain white affair with black edging. It is steel boned.
I always wear it under a dress, because it's too revealing anywhere else, plus it gives me ginourmous love handles.

For your problem, go for perhaps a gothy white shirt (or simply a very well cut one).
If it's an underbust, then you'll already be wearing a top underneath, right?

Yes, I should have mentioned that I bought it to wear as... well, "outerwear", you know, as the main feature of an outfit? But I didn't think far enough ahead to what that outfit might be :P

I'm ready to burn my underbust corset (baby pink with black trimming and hand-tailored) It makes my boobs look far too big (I'm already well-endowed) and squishes my belly fat down onto my hips which makes me look ridicilous! Always make sure that anyone making one for you follows sketches and measurements exactly! Anyways...I wear all my corsets with a shirt underneath....I have a whole selection (a white edwardian style with cap sleeves, a semi-see through black lacy shirt for special occasions with an amazing bra, t-shirts, a thin jumper.....etc)

Pencil skirts with corsets are hott!

Mmm, some lovely suggestions. I don't have the huge boobs issue, it's really flattering on me. Will have to go and do some shopping when I get some money together.
