RE: Recent musical discoveries/current obsessions

I'm seriously crazy over Oingo Boingo. They aren't new, and they were moderately well known when they were new (80s, of course), but I've only recently discovered them.
Their music is just...awesome. More awesome that everything I've ever called awesome. Even myself.

Also, they were fronted by Danny Elfman, and he was HOT back then. Really hot.
*drools*

^^ Incubus are the best thing on this planet. I've loved them for about a decade, and they're still the one band whose music I love like a heartbeat.

Me too, they were probably the first 'rock' band I ever discovered, aged about ten, because my older brother loved them and used to play them all the time [and I'm still jealous he saw them on the Make Yourself tour >:|]. I've seen them live twice and I never cease to love them.

Neither of them are really new to me, but I can't listen to enough of Bat for Lashes and Katatonia right now.

Jesu and Ashes Divide are my current obsessions, thanks to a lovely boy who introduced me to both.

I'd love to know more of the punk- caberet genre if anyone's got any suggestions (Big Dresden Dolls fan, and Rasputina!)

A friend made me a mixtape ages ago, and one track that seemed to escape my attention until recently was "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap. Have quickly become fan! Waiting for cd import! (Yay)

Also, I go though fads of music I used to listen to when I was younger. I listen to a band to death, don't listen to it for ages, then go back and hear all the songs with a wistful nostalgia.

I am curently obessed with The Dresden Dolls. I just love Amanda Palmer's irony and the way she can find words for all the difficult situations in life so easily.

After listening to 'Halloween' tag radio on last.fm, I've discovered that I quite enjoy psychobilly and horror punk. They shall be happy in between my glossy synthpop and my geeky comedy music.

Ooh, and thanks to my Danny Elfman obsession, I've been listening to loads of film scores and stuff, including the wonderful soundtrack to Labyrinth.

Magic Dance FTW.

YOU REMIND ME OF THE BABE!

I need to see that film.

Polly Scattergood. Just got recommended her by last.fm. She is meant to be the Kate Bush of our generation. I really like her actually! :)

I've been listening a lot to Pretty Balanced lately. I don't think they're that well-known but they've got some beautiful songs.
I recently gave Amanda Blank's album a listen and it's got some catchy stuff on it.
And if you're talking really recent discoveries, I'm currently giving The Ditty Bops a listen and I like what I hear. They've got some cute, quirky songs. I love discovering new music!
