Thrift stores are a wonderul place to find vintage clothes, if you know what you're looking for. Estate sales can be good as well. Especially if it's not run by a professional team.

You can also try fleamarkets but it's not always as easy to find good stuff.

A lot of the repro vintage companies come with a large price tag. Also, if you're going for authentic, some of the repro vintage lines don't use fabrics that would be considered correct and they will change hem and neck lines. But, if you're just getting the clothes because they look awesome and don't mind the price, it's fine.

I work in a charity shop and I always find tons of nice retro things (though admittedly I do get first pick and 25% discount!)

http://www.traid.org.uk/ are a charity organisation that specialises in vintage and retro second hand clothing. They have a shop in Brixton, London - I think the website says where else they have shops.

They're pretty good for fifties and up - not so good on earlier eras, but hunting around is the key!
