| Hiding Scars |

| I've cut for about 3 years but im trying to stop. I wanted to know if anyone has ever cut and how do they hide their scars. I would tell my mom but right now thats not an option.

| I highly suggest working on more than just hiding the scars. If you say you can't tell your mom, I would recommend finding someone else responsible to talk to. A teacher, guidance counselor (if you're still in school) older family friend, religious advisor, etc.... Hiding the scars will NOT fix the problem and while you say you want to stop, there is some reason you started this in the first place. Whatever made you start in the first place is what needs to be dealt with, not the end result.
If you need someone to talk to, just message me. But, please take my advice and speak to someone who can do something to help you.

| Well, it really depends where your scars are. You said that you've self-injured for 3 years, so you probably have your own methods of hideing the scars. Maybe, once (if) you feel comfortable with it, try going out with short sleeves, or capris, or whatever. I know it can be nerve wracking, but it's your body. You may have made some bad choices, but no one has the right to make fun of you. (But we live in an imperfect world.) Here is a video about hiding the scars, if your intrested. http://www.youtube.com/user/xsullengirlx#p/c/3F4C3A2E2080DE31/1/ZtBreLql3ZAI want to say congrats on the desision to stop. It's not always an easy one to make. You said you can't tell your mom, which probably means that you don't feel like you can tell any other adults either. But I think it's easier to stop when you have someone to hold you accountable. Maybe a friend? I would suggest telling your mom, though. And feel free to message me, if you want. __________________

| Winter is better, because of long sleeves. It is summer where it becomes a problem.

| I did a while ago and it limited me so much with what I wore. More than I imagined to be honest. I had been doing it on my ankle, which became a problem in the spring (hot here) because I like wearing miniskirts. So I resorted to all sorts of things like thin legwarmers, which actually looked really weird when it was 90 degrees. I even borrowed some tattoo sleeves from my friends, which looked ridiculous. My scars are almost gone now, but I still feel awkward when I have to show my ankles because I feel like they're obvious even though they aren't. You can try makeup, but unless they are fully healed they will show through.
And my dad's wedding. Ugh, I was wearing a dress up to my knees and my scars hadn't healed completely. I slapped on a load of cover up and stood with my right leg bent over my left leg with the cuts on it so it just looked like I was posing for pictures. Also, for the dress fittings I had to wear armwarmers, which I only wear now because they look cool. But to be honest, a lot of people assume you're a cutter if you wear them a lot so be careful.
Best way to hide scars is to stop though. Just go cold turkey. I stopped because I identified what was making me feel like doing it, and then realized that it wasn't worth it and certainly was making it no better. All it gave me was ugly marks. Find other ways to cope, go out with your friends, get a new hobby, anything to take your mind off it. Try playing a game with yourself where you see how long you can go without cutting and reward yourself. Please stop, it will stop your worrying.

| I've talked to a guidance counselor, for the first year or two, and the only time i could talk to her was class time. But now my classes are way to demanding. But i have solved a few problems. And also I would tell my mom but when ever i have a seriouse problem she either blames her self or just freaks out. Thanks for the advice though -- Edited by Annika on Friday 6th of November 2009 01:38:16 PM __________________ Make love not war.... ahhh scew it just go make love!! |

| Lavender oil helped mine fade, but that's more long-term.

| There is a sort of gel or salve sold here in germany called "Contractubex". I used it since I cut deep and my scars were sort of big, red and stick up ...
The gel helps the skin to scar over and avoids the scars from being more outstanding than usual.
Depending how deep your cuts are, you'll have to live with it in effect (which is my experience). People will surely ask, but most of them will understand what's going on.
Bad thing about Contractubex is, it's damn expensive. I got my last ration for 15 Euro (50 g) which is actually a bad joke, because depending on your cuts, you'll need a lot of it. But it really works, it just takes time.
