| An English essay about Moi. |
|
| So erm.. yea. I had to write an english essay about numero uno, so I thought I would post it here for the whole of mook to enjoy, or laugh at how utter carp it is! Me.
HAI! My name is Harry, and I was born on the 22nd of July, 1995. I live in a semi-detached house with my nagging mum, strange dad and unspeakably annoying sister. Now Im supposed to say an interesting fact, but I cant really think of one. Most people know this already know this, but when I was five we went to Gibraltar in Spain, and I was nearly killed in an incident involving a monkey and raw pasta. Im not quite sure of three things I couldn't live without but if I had to say three things I would probably say my dog buster, pot noodles and my ever-growing game collection. Three things I hate where pretty obvious to say. Pikeys, Activision and most insects. Pikeys are a complete waste of space; Activision is the reason the game industry is the way it is. They release the same games, every Christmas with minor changes and their only goal is getting your money, and they don't care about the consumer. For example, the upcoming Modern warfare 2 has two different walkthrough books coming out, on at £13 and one so called Prestige edition for £25. The prestige edition is the one that actually tells you what to do. And insects are just plain freaky. I havent really got a hero or an idol, because when Im older I want to be an individual, not a clone of someone else. I usually follow the same routine on a weekend, Which some people might find boring, but those people arent me. I wake up at around 8 or 9 - ish, go upstairs to my loft and play games on my 360 and other consoles till about lunchtime, eat a pot noodle and then play some more games. In the evening I might go round my friend Georges for dinner where we play more games, surprise surprise. And if you havent guessed by now, I KINDA LIEK VIDJA GAMES. __________________

| Is pikey not another word for a ned?
And by ned, I mean chav.

| ^ Yes, it is, but I think it's also an offensive term for a gypsy.
Something that really annoys me is the fact that travellers and gypsies are the only groups of people you can say anything about without being punished for it. :(

| It is often used as an offensive term for travellers and gypsies. I find it quite offensive actually, as I have family who were travellers at one point.
I am also surprised at this subject for an essay. How old are you Llamadude?

| Erm.. I'm 14, and just started yr10/GCSE's.... This wasnt exactly an essay, more of a practice for our proper exams, in which we have to do speaking, Listening and *uuurgh* Acting.
And I didn't mean to offend anyone over the term 'pikey' we just clearly have different meanings. In my area, pikeys are like chavs, common people, and 'rednecks' in america. Its like.. the guys who smoke, talk lik dis init bleds, think they are well 'hard' and can't say a sentence without using the words fuck, shit or cunt.

| Haha... I wish I could write an essay like this.
I'm currently working on my Survey of Music History I research paper. The topic?
"The Conflicting Views of Plato and Aristotle Concerning the Ethos of the Music of Antiquity"
I know I need to condense the title -_-; ... Quite fascinating, actually... but a lot rides on this paper.
It is supposed to be at least ten pages long and in .12 font.
At least I do not have to write a doctoral dissertation... Yet.
I am dreading that day.
Oh... And I have to use the Chicago style... No MLA. No parenthetical documentation. Foot notes only. Bah.

| The speaking & listening part of GCSE's are worth suprisingly little.
I've finished everything up to the final exam now... ^_^

| I do, but I just feel slightly offended by your use of the phrase, 'common people'. I don't think that it is very kind. I know you didn't mean to offend anyone. But still... I don't think I am being unreasonable.

| I find it astounding that in a society where bigotry is widely looked down on by most of the population, we still find it acceptable to be prejudiced against chavs. You can have a perfectly nice, intelligent yet chavvy person, it's their choice to be a member of that subculture, listen to that type of music, dress that way etc.
I don't know what qualifies a person to be a chav though... If a person wears tracksuits and sportswear, speaks dropping their Ts and Hs, smokes a packet of cigarettes a day, lives on a rough estate and enjoys dancing to R'n'B, but spends their days reading classic literature and enjoys listening to Radio 4, are they a chav?
Does the word chav automatically suggest that they're a bad/lesser person?
What would you call my Nike-clad, Favourite Chicken-munching Wilde fan? Are they a pikey?
Your use of the word pikey seems to suggest a person who possesses the attributes we all know as 'chavvy', but also is an unpleasant person... Fair enough, but as for your use of the phrase "common people", by which I presume you mean the working classes, I do think that lumping working class people in with your use of the word pikey is more than a little unenlightened and classist.
...Sorry, didn't mean to have a go, just an English Language student putting in her two-pennies :) And, just for the record, your teacher definitely won't mark you well for appearing to be prejudiced. It is a little inappropriate in a school environment. I suggest you change 'pikeys' to 'rude, unenlightened people' or something along those lines, just to play it safe - seeing as that basically encapsulates what you mean by pikey anyway.
Mind you, saying all this, when I was 14 I wouldn't have batted an eyelid at someone saying they hate pikeys, I guess it is subjective - but always good to get opinions of people not in your peer group/area, I find :)

| It is just as bad as saying 'I hate goths', which we'd be in uproar about.

| Good god, we aren't actually analysing this now, are we?
I said that I have lots of pikeys in my school, and so do most people on mooky!
And i'm not the only one who has used pikey in a derogatory term, so why am I getting a grilling?
P.S.
Antonym, If you can fine me a chav who spends their days reading classic literature and enjoys listening to Radio 4, I will eat a burberry cap.
