So at the end of this year me, the girlfriend and her three children are emigrating to Australia. Well, they're all emmigrating, I'm simply returning. We've weighed the pros and cons of staying here in the UK verses going to Australia and we've decided that the move to OZ would be better for the family in the long run.
Very exciting! Obviously its a huge thing for us all, but we've gotten the ball rolling this past week. Until now it's just been talk of moving, but yesterday I posted off the visa application bright and early and today the family went for the medicals to make sure they were seen as fit to move there.
Usually the visa applications could take (up to) years to complete, but as I'm australian by birth we're applying as a partner visa, which means basically GF is going out there as my defacto/wife. Because they (the visas) are done via the UK instead of Sydney the turn around rate is a matter of 3 - 6 weeks. This time next month we should know if the visas have been granted or not!
Fingers crossed!
I didnt have anyone else here in the UK i could tell and my Australian friends are all in bed asleep, so I thought I would tell you all.
The countdown begins..

Oh, that's really good! Where are you moving to, if I may ask?
I think most Australia is pretty good as far as bringing up children goes - it's safe and the cost of living isn't ridiculous like the UK.

We're looking at the Hunter area(in NSW) - its where I'm originally from... anywhere from Newcastle to Maitland, really.
We're all really excited about it - we took the kids out there for a month over xmas 2007 and they loved it there. Hopefully we'll be there for christmas again this year too!

WE GOT THE VISAS TODAY!
Im seriously stoked - and stunned - at how quickly it all happened. I was expecting to hear from them sometime late Nov/Dec..
